After four rounds at Kasumigaseki Country Club, in Saitama, Japan, the competition has ended and the USA wins gold. Xander Schauffele (+800) prevailed after sinking two keys putts in the final round of what was a great weekend for golf. Rory Sabbatini set an Olympic record with a 61 (he had two bogeys too) and took the silver medal home for Slovakia. The bronze medal went to a seven-man playoff including reigning Masters Champion Hideki Matsuyama, four time major winner Rory McIlroy, recent Open Champion Collin Morikowa, Mito Pereira, Sebastian Munoz and C.T. Pan. Matsuyama was eliminated on the first extra hole, along with Paul Casey, with a bogey. No gold medal for the hometown favorite, but he’ll be fine, he’s got the green jacket in the bag. Rory, Mito Pereira and Munoz went down on the third playoff hole with pars. C.T. Pan and Morikawa, who both shot 63 in their final round, were left and Pan won with a par in the final hole and took home the bronze.
