This Week At Pebble Beach

One of the highlights during the early part of the PGA Tour season is the week at Pebble Beach. It’s arguably the most iconic course on American soil. While we will argue to the death that Augusta National wears the crown, Pebble Beach, in all its glory, is down right stunning. No one will argue that. Northern California, on the coast, in prime season is beautiful in a way that many other places in the world are not. There’s three courses over there that get play during the tournament – Pebble Beach of course, then Spyglass and MPCC Shore. And the icing on the cake is it’s played as a pro-am and some of the most recognizable faces in sports and entertainment and media who love the the game of golf come together to make this event truly special.

This year seems a little different than in years past, as a lot of the big names that would usually have entered the tournament are over playing the in the Saudi International over in Saudi Arabia. Dustin Johnson, the defending champion is again leading by two strokes over Tony Finau and Justin Rose at the time of this post. Other names entered are Kevin Na, Ian Poulter, Tommy Fleetwood and Sergio Garcia. Phil Mickelson is also playing in Saudi Arabia, and was vocal this week about “obnoxious greed” by the PGA Tour has led to big money being dangled to lure PGA Tour players onto their new tour. It’s reported that Bryon DeChambeau was offered $135 million to play, who withdrew from the tournament citing injuries to his lefft hand and left hip. That’s more than all the prize money Tiger has ever won. Anyway, we’re off topic, this week should be about Pebble Beach, and it still is, for now.
