BMW Championship Preview

The field has been cut down to 70 players as the next leg of the playoff heads to Caves Valley Golf Cub in Maryland for the BMW Championship. Now this upcoming weekend is significant for a couple of reasons. First, is the obvious reason, it’s the playoffs and who ever wins (and places in the top 10) gets a ton of points headed into the TOUR Championship the following weekend. The second reason it’s significant is because following the completion of the BMW, the Ryder Cup teams will need to be finalized, further setting the stage for September at one of Pete Dye’s joints.

So without further delay, let’s’ take a look at how things might shake out starting tomorrow at the BMW Championship. Rahm is playing out of his mind. I’m shocked he let last weekend slip through his grip and he’s the obvious favorite at +550. Next comes the usual suspects. Schauffele, Spieth, DJ, Thomas, Dechambeau, etc. Morikowa is back this weekend looking to avenge his missed cut in Jersey and has the third best odds to win at +1800. Not sure Tony has it in him to repeat, but if anyone is feeling lucky, he’s available at +2800. Cameron Smith also sharing +2800.

So many players are playing well, it’s a tough call. Perhaps a deep dive into who’s played well here in the past ,but even that’ll be tough data to find, as this will be the first time the course has hosted a PGA Tour event. I think Rahm, Thomas, DJ and/or a sleeper pull it through this weekend. Rahm is just playing too well to think he’s not going to win at least one of these playoff events, almost have to put a little something on him to win.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, here’s several handfuls of the lines as the oddsmakers see them:

  • Jon Rahm +550
