It’s major championship week again as the boys head down to Southern Hills for the year’s 2nd major championship, the 104th PGA Championship. Last week’s Byron Nelson Classic was a warmup birdie fest for what we hope to see down in Tulsa, OK this upcoming weekend. KH Lee posted back-to-back wins, as he held of Texas’ golden boy, Jordan Spieth, Sebastian Munoz and a handful of others who peaked their head near the leaderboard at TPC Craig Ranch. Great major tournament prep and there’s a few handfuls of players hitting the ball very well right now that could be in contention.
Let’s start with the a headline, but a non-headline. Phil Mickelson withdrew last week from the event. I don’t think there’s any surprise there from anyone, but still, what a let down. Last year just rips up Kiawah Island and becomes the oldest to ever win a major and this year he’s broken. Tiger is in the field and what a treat it would have been to see them pair’d up and mic’d up for the first couple days of the tournament. Doubtful the PGA of America would have let that happen, but fans can dream, right?
Despite no Phil, this week is hyped up BIG, with Scottie Scheffler trying to make it two majors in a row. Jordan Spieth trying to complete the career grand slam. Cantlay, Rahm, Morikowa, Rory and Justin Thomas are all right there too as favorites to win. Don’t forget about Homa, Hovland, DJ, Xander, Cam Smith who are all right there with their game too. Southern Hills is no stranger to major championships, so expect the super have them green rollin’ come Thursday!
